The song was originally recorded as a demo by R&B singer Usher (who is Bieber's mentor) for his sixth studio album, Raymond v. Raymond. The song was later given to Bieber who recorded it, with Usher performing background vocals. It peaked at number fifteen on the US Billboard Hot 100.

"OMG" is the first worldwide single from Usher's sixth studio album, Raymond v. Raymond, released on March 22, 2010. The song features will.i.am, who also wrote and produced the song and uses the auto-tune effect in several lines. Usher and will.i.am both performed the song live on several occasions including on the ninth season of American Idol. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was named the fifth best selling song of 2010.
